Mechanical tree planting is
accomplished with a rubber tire tractor and a Whitfield tree planter. We can plant any
pine seedlings that you desire. If you are unsure of what species of pine seedlings to
plant we can consult with you to figure out which would work best taking into
consideration terrain, soil type and desired crop.
Sub soiling is the process to
break through the hard pan of the soil in order to improve tree growth and root
establishment of your pine stand.
Sod scalping is performed to
remove the sod (example, heavy grasses) from the immediate area of pine seedling planting
to decrease the immediate competition of your young planted pines.
Site Preparation can either be
done mechanically or with chemical. The mechanical site prep can include wind rowing of
heavy debris that remain after clear cutting your timber, we can also install raised beds
if it is needed or desired. Chemical site prep can be done with rubber tire tractor or
helicopter which ever will better serve your needs.
Band Spraying - bands of
chemical sprayed over the rows of planted pine seedlings during their first few years of
growth to eliminate competition from weeds and heavy grasses.
Understory spraying is done to
control competition or invasive species under established pine or hardwood timber. It can
be done with a tractor or ATV depending on which will better serve your needs.
Road maintenance is done
with a tractor or backhoe and other implements that might be needed for your particular
property. We can establish or maintain roads, stream crossings or ATV/hiking trails.
Food plots can be cleared and
established to include fertilization, planting and maintenance for your particular game
needs.
Lot clearing can be done with
a brown tree cutter and tractor to mow down small trees and debris up to 6 inches in
diameter. A backhoe can be used to remove the larger stumps and debris.
Managing Invasive Species -
Removal of existing invasive is the primary objective, and this is normally completed by
chemical foliar spray, basal bark applications or cut stump treatments. In some cases,
mechanical mowing or brush cutting methods are also employed.
Hard Wood Control - There are
several hardwood species that compete with pine stands for sunlight and nutrients in the
soil. These can be problematic for a pine stand during its first few years of growth and
can be controlled by utilizing herbicides.
Kudzu Control - Application of
soil activated herbicides which has been proven to be effective in controlling the kudzu
weed is used and in order to be effective must be reapplied for several years after
initial application.
